Puppy Love (2/2)

Things at the cafe go back to normal and Kyungsoo appreciates that Jongin doesn't bring that night up. The work resumes as usual, Jongin dealing with the dogs and customers, and Kyungsoo, dealing with the espresso machine. Sungjae doesn’t show up for awhile, making things easier for Kyungsoo. It’s a sweet relief to have to go home without dreading about anything on the way out. There’s more dogs now. Chanyeol picked up an injured one by the subway and Sehun brought back an abandoned one he saw near the trash outside. Jongin also adopted three more puppies from a friend who was about to move to another country and couldn’t bring the dogs with him. Puppies are adorable and Kyungsoo, who has never even liked dogs, are instantly attached to them. Jongin teaches him how to take care of one and in a span of a few minutes, Kyungsoo loves them already. They’re of a mixed breed and in different shades of brown. Jongin has Kyungsoo name all three of them and he now calls them Coffee, Tea and Sugar. His work has now doubled. He deals with his regular work and then checks on the puppies and the new dogs. When they’ve learned how to walk on all four of their legs, Kyungsoo sets them out for the new customers to play with. They become instant favorites in the cafe which leads Kyungsoo to feel all jealous because the puppies don’t have time for him anymore. They’re always tired by the end of the day. Jongin had laughed at him for being so upset about that. One afternoon, Chanyeol barges in the supply room while Jongin and Kyungsoo are doing an inventory. He’s waving his phone in the air and frantically pulls Jongin aside. “Please be available tomorrow night.” Chanyeol starts. “For what?” Jongin asks. “I promised to set up my girlfriend’s friend on a blind date.” Kyungsoo pretends to count the number of milk cartons left on the shelves. “Chanyeol, you do know I only date guys.” “And this is a guy. His name is Luhan. He’s an exchange student at the university. He’s fun. You’ll like him.” There’s a small silence right after that. Kyungsoo doesn’t have to look over to see that Jongin had stopped talking just so he can look at Kyungsoo. “You should go,” Kyungsoo says, eyeing the shelves and still counting down supplies in his inventory sheet. “You’ve been so busy these days.” “Kyungsoo’s right. Please go on that blind date for me.” Chanyeol pleads. Kyungsoo doesn’t know Jongin’s answer to that for he had hauled the supplies he needed out of there quick, excusing himself to deal with some orders. He does notice Jongin leaving early the next night and Chanyeol was the one who locked up for them. Kyungsoo knows he has no reason to sulk at Jongin going on dates. The boy is free to do whatever he wants in his own time and the same applies to Kyungsoo. He also has no one to blame but himself if he does feel a bit of jealousy. He was the one who turned him down when Jongin asked to be his boyfriend over a month ago. He was the one who gave that speech about just wanting to be friends. Kyungsoo doesn’t really regret what he said. He did want to be alone. He did like being single and just harboring a crush on his boss. But that was then. This was now. He’s learned how to balance his time and pay all the bills. He’s enjoyed his time alone. Now, he finds that he’s quite possesive of the labrador retriever he’s used to having all to himself. He meets Luhan the next week when he comes and visits. He’s a pretty faced boy that had every student they have in their cafe momentarily ignore the dogs in favor of him. Kyungsoo had to hand it over to the guy for bringing a sack of treats for the dogs as a visiting gift. That had to be impressive for Jongin. He’s nice. Kyungsoo was prepared to dislike him but Luhan is a nice guy which makes everything worse. He always compliments Kyungsoo on the latte he makes for him and plays with the puppies. He’s a frequent customer and always orders more than just one cup of coffee. He’s a great guy and even if Kyungsoo does feel bitter about him dating Jongin, he’s glad Jongin is with a guy who likes the things he likes. And the puppies seem to like him too so Kyungsoo guesses he’s okay. “I don’t get it.” Baekhyun said to him once while he and Kyungsoo were watching some late night show and talking about Jongin. “You liked him and you pushed him away?” “I didn’t push him away.” Kyungsoo flicks a leftover kernel of uncooked popcorn at him. “I wasn’t looking to be with someone at the time. Some of us like being single you know.” “You’ve been single for a year.” Baekhyun rolls his eyes at him. “With an occasional asshole stalking you.” Kyungsoo laughs. “But seriously, Soo. Stop with this single shit and just date him. You know you want to.” “Only because of this new guy that’s interested in him.” He lies. But it was partly true. “And that, my friend, is your wake up call.” Baekhyun plops his head down his lap. “Go ask him out. I’m sure he’d still like to.” Kyungsoo doesn’t. He’s sure Jongin and Luhan are better off together anyway. Sehun falls sick on one of the busiest month they have at the cafe. It’s spring break and the influx of customers just doubled. Chanyeol took over Sehun’s shift for a while but it was clear he wasn’t good at carrying a lot of fragile things on a tray. So Kyungsoo became the cafe’s server and barista at the same time. If he was tired at the end of the day on the first few months on the job, Kyungsoo was utterly exhausted just for this spring break. He’d drag himself home and not eat anything before going to bed. He was too tired to be up on his feet every closing time. But he didn’t dare show it to Chanyeol and Jongin who was dealing with a lot of things on their own. Sehun calls after a week to let them know he was well and coming back. The call came just as they were cleaning up for closing time and it was the greatest thing to hear at the moment. “Thank God,” Chanyeol slumps on a wall, broom still in his hand. “More human hands around here.” Jongin gives off a tired laugh. “At least Kyungsoo can go back to just dealing with coffee.” “He needs it. He’s been working harder than us these days.” Kyungsoo doesn’t get to tell them that they were both looking tired too for Jongin is looking at him with a frown on his face. He doesn’t know why he’s looking at him like that when he hasn’t done anything or said anything. Kyungsoo dismisses it though when he remembered he forgot to stow away the glasses from the dishwasher and goes to finish the last of his duties. They continue to clean and mop the floors. Jongin disappears on them for awhile, probably to clean the dogs’ area. Chanyeol had to leave as soon as he was done since he had to pick up his girlfriend. Kyungsoo has no choice but to wait for Jongin just to make sure the cafe would be locked up. Jongin arrives five minutes later with plastic bags filled with food. He has ddeokbokki and soondae and fish ball soup with him and he lays it all out on the counter where Kyungsoo sat on top of it, waiting for him. “Most of the food stores were already closed. This was the only thing I can find.” Jongin says, grabbing forks from a cupboard and pulling up a stool. Kyungsoo doesn’t hop off the counter, still too tired to move. “You’re this hungry?” Kyungsoo eyes everything. It was enough for four people to eat. If Chanyeol and Sehun were here, this would’ve been just fine. “It’s for you.” Jongin frowns at him again. “Do you know how smaller you look compared to last week?” Kyungsoo doesn’t realize he’d lost that much weight. He’s been too busy to notice anything about himself. Kyungsoo’s heart always flutters whenever Jongin is around. Even after he turned him down, it never stopped fluttering for him. It had made him feel giddy before. But now, he finds it ridiculously annoying. He’s not supposed to harbor feelings for Jongin when the guy was already seeing someone else. Right now, it’s fluttering again at the thought of Jongin noticing such a small thing about him. Kyungsoo starts eating then, rustling the plastic wrappers and talking about other things just to fill in the silence and distract himself from all that fluttering inside him. “It’s been awhile since I had this much food.” Kyungsoo sighs in gratitude, a pleased smile on his lips when they’re both done. He had worried about the leftovers but it turned out he and Jongin were hungry enough to finish everything. “Thank you.” Jongin smiles back. Kyungsoo can’t help but drown in that smile again. That cute adorable looking puppy smile. He’s looking up at him too, his eyes so mesmerizing. Kyungsoo has to look away, drinking a glass of water as an excuse. When he settles the glass back down, Jongin reaches out to cup his face. Kyungsoo freezes, looking anywhere but at Jongin. He studies that coffee stain on his apron as if it’s the most interesting thing he’s seeing. He should look at Jongin’s face and admire the view. Jongin was a walking piece of art and Kyungsoo was an idiot for just looking at a coffee stain rather than his face. “You have sauce...” Jongin swipes his thumb on a corner of his bottom lip. Kyungsoo feels ridiculous then. He relaxes, just a bit. But Jongin seems to notice him letting his guard down for he stands up, pushes the stool back so he can reach him and kiss him. Kyungsoo’s eyes widen. He’s frozen once more on his spot. He’s stunned that Jongin kissed him but at the same time, Jongin kissed him. The fluttering in his heart just transitioned into a hard thump, then a fast paced banging that’s making his ears ring and his mind go blank. Jongin’s presence isn’t only warm. His kiss is too. He’s warm and soft, his lips so gently pressed to his own. He has his head tilted to the side, their noses fitting perfectly. His lashes brush against Kyungsoo’s cheek. He has his hand still cupping his face and it’s a nice reminder how he’s being so gentle with him. And then Kyungsoo gives up. He gives up analyzing every thing Jongin is doing to him. He gives up and gives in to the kiss, leaning forwards and cupping Jongin’s face too. Their lips move, not to part but to meet again. There’s no tongue involved and it’s just a sweet, slow, gentle kiss that Kyungsoo’s insides melt along with all his inhibitions. He only realizes what they had done when they part to breathe. Jongin leans forward to kiss him again but Kyungsoo leans back, stopping him even if he wants nothing more than to chase those lips. Jongin eyes him in mild confusion, wondering why. “You’re seeing someone,” Kyungsoo answers his unspoken question quietly, dropping his hand that had cupped Jongin's face. “You’re seeing someone and you’re kissing me. That’s not exactly right.” For a second, Jongin stays confused. As if he doesn’t know what Kyungsoo is talking about. But then his features finally relax and he smiles. But instead of admiring that smile, Kyungsoo’s the one that starts feeling confused. “I’m not seeing anyone.” He says. Kyungsoo is sure the reason Luhan kept on visiting was because of Jongin. “Aren’t you and Luhan...?” Kyungsoo asks. “I turned him down. After that first date. He was alright with it.” “But the visits?” Kyungsoo asks. “ And the dog treats? Who were they for?” “For Sehun.” Jongin simply answers. “Wasn't it obvious why he kept ordering stuff from you just so Sehun can keep on serving him?” Kyungsoo feels like an idiot. An idiot who is at his happiest at the moment. He feels that high school crush thing going on inside him again and he laughs to himself feeling insane and giddy. He might just be crazy. Crazy for Kim Jongin. “Please don’t tell me that was the only thing stopping you.” Jongin is looking at him all hopeful and Kyungsoo replies back sheepishly. “It was.” Jongin gives a small aish at first, making Kyungsoo feel bad they had to wait this long. But then Jongin laughs and Kyungsoo finds it was actually worth waiting this long, sorting out himself so he can finally focus on being with someone. “Were you still... waiting?” Kyungsoo asks, placing his hands in his lap and twiddling his thumbs. He had to ask. Jongin lowers his head to him, catching his eyes, so Kyungsoo can stop looking at his hands and look at him instead. Up close like this, Jongin looks like a cute puppy again. “Yes.” He answers. “I told you, I like you. That didn't change in just a span of a few months.” Kyungsoo nods, pressing his lips together to keep from smiling. But Jongin leans forward again, laughing, and Kyungsoo has no choice but to smile and part his lips for him. Being in a relationship with the cutest puppy is sort of a distraction. Kyungsoo doesn’t know how many times he’s messed up a customer’s order because Jongin keeps on visiting the counter just to talk to him or subtly touch him on his waist when he passes. Or the many times he surprises Kyungsoo in between shifts by holding up his three favorite puppies in his face because they missed Kyungsoo playing with him. So Kyungsoo has to divide his attention between working, being with Jongin and then having three puppies on the side. He’s in love with all of them though so he endures all the stress and fluffiness. Spring break continues and they’ve found a way to deal with all the customers. Luhan works with them now as a part­-time server but everyone knows he’s only taken the job so he can see much of Sehun. Which is just fine for everyone since they do need an extra pair of human hands. Working at a dog cafe wasn’t a job he’d expected to take. But it turned out to be the best job Kyungsoo’s ever had. No one minds about his small stature or his looks and everyone loves his coffee. He has Jongin who gives him soft kisses and makes him laugh, he has the dogs he’s learned to love and friends who call Kyungsoo their very own teacup puppy. He'd always hit them for that but that doesn’t make the guys stop teasing him about it. “All locked up?” Kyungsoo asks Jongin as he tosses him the keys. Another day at the cafe has ended and they both can’t wait to get home. Jongin nods. He throws an arm around Kyungsoo as they head out of there, Kyungsoo leaning into his warmth as they walk. “Hey babe,” Someone calls behind them and Kyungsoo’s jaw tighten when he hears that familiar voice after so long. Kyungsoo turns around to see Sungjae there in a new flashy car, waiting for him. As if he’d be able to impress Kyungsoo with that. “I thought I’d come visit.” He says coming up to them. He eyes Jongin and his arm around Kyungsoo. “What did I tell you about hanging around here?” Kyungsoo says. “Oh come on, Kyungsoo. You missed me and you know it.” Sungjae laughs. Jongin takes a step forward at that but Kyungsoo holds him back. “What? Is this guy still pretending to be your boyfriend?” Sungjae snorts. “He can't be your boyfriend. Look at him, he's not good looking enough­" Kyungsoo never knew he had it in him to actually punch someone right between the eyes. And it’s exhilarating when he does so, throwing a good punch at Sungjae, making his head reel back. “Yeah, he is,” Kyungsoo glares at Sungjae who’s holding his face from the blow. “If you ever forget it, feel free to come back so I can remind you.” Sungjae only stares at him in complete disbelief while Jongin laughs and pulls Kyungsoo away from there. “Boyfriend, huh?” Jongin teases after a while. Kyungsoo only shuts him up with his lips. A/N: I know this story is cliche and all but I needed the fluff and I hope you guys enjoyed it :) One | Two

THIS IS SO CUTEEEEEE what more can I ask than Kaisoo working together in a dog cafe :")))) This is seriously so adorable. I really liked how Kyungsoo started comparing his coworkers with the dogs in the cafe, it was pretty adorable for me and I feel that in some sense it established a relationship between his coworkers and him! (Not sure if that makes sense)

And it really warmed my heart when everyone was just looking out for kyungsoo in the own way subtly when Sungjae was harassing him. My favourite would be Jongin self-declaring himself as Ksoo's boyfriend :--------) Jongin fitting in eell with his family made me squeal too hehe. It was as though Ksoo brought him to meet his parents as a official boyfriend heheheheh

The ending was super cute as well, definitely. With Jongin being all extra and touchy and distracting Ksoo especially with the help of Coffee, Tea and Sugar keke. Love those names btw, perfect fit x) I can totally imagine ksoo mentally stressing all the wrong orders he made while being distracted yet cooing/melting whenever Jongin or/and the puppies visted him heheh.

I really like the general feel/atmosphere of this story!! It had this really soft and comforting lul to it and it just makes the fluff all the more fluffy!! XD

I can picture this fic in my head, the scenes etc. and I guess I drowned in so much fluff :') I instantly fell in love bc I love dogs. And dogs & kaisoo = life. Lol.

Honestly Jongin owning a dog café is totally something I could imagine him doing if he wasn't an idol lol. And I love the part where Kyungsoo compares Jongin and Chanyeol to dogs and settles on the fact that Sehun is more like a cat lmao

It was really cute lol and even though the entire cafe!au isn't the most original thing in the world it was still really enjoyable and it had the fun twist of it being a dog café~~
