Kyungsoo finds his jaw dropping when he turns the corner and ducks under the cloth partition, only to find himself face to face with the man who’d taken up pretty much all of his thoughts since he’d left him some six weeks ago. “Dr Do!” The head nurse drags him to stand by the patient’s head and shoves a thin file into his hands, him taking over Jongin’s previous position – the man walks over to the other side of his friend’s bed instead. Kyungsoo doesn’t even have the time to let his gaze linger on Jongin’s stoic face before he needed to bend down to assess the patient’s wound.

“He’s lost quite a bit of blood.” The doctor frowns and slips on a latex glove. Sehun walks in just then and he gives a double take, his eyes widen in recognition of the two men. Before he could pass a comment, Jongin clears his throat and catches the attention of Kyungsoo who had been staring into Chanyeol’s eyes with a small flashlight.

“His cut runs ten inches long and at least an inch deep, not consistent throughout. It was a short knife with a jagged blade that caught him. Missed all major organs thankfully, and there doesn’t seem to be any unnatural bruising along the cut. Steady pressure was applied to the wound shortly after. I’m sure his wound hasn’t been infected yet. Patient was conscious throughout transport to current location. No other observations, doc. You should probably stitch him up as soon as you’re done with your primary assessment.”

All the doctors and nurses huddled around the bed stare with part amazement and part shock because Jongin had basically let his mouth run off what would pass as a professional medical assessment. Kyungsoo stares at the other, transfixed. Who exactly are you, Kim Jongin? He shakes his head to put all these thoughts and questions to the back of his mind temporarily. “He’s right. There’s no bruising and infection of the wound yet. Get some antiseptics just in case.” Kyungsoo turns to Sehun and jerks his head to the side. “You, stitch him up after the necessary.”

Sehun and the nurses hurry off to do what they’ve been assigned while Kyungsoo removes his gloves and stuff them in a nearby bin. He could feel the piercing gaze on the side of his face as he walks towards the partition. “You.” Jongin’s facial expression was unreadable as Kyungsoo addresses him. “A word, please.” The doctor sweeps out of the small space immediately, and the other has no choice but to follow as ordered.

Kyungsoo led Jongin to a quiet corner at the end of the hallway before turning on him, gaze steely as he tried to read the latter’s thoughts. “It’s like I don’t even know who you are, Kim Jongin.” He folds his arms awkwardly. Who are you exactly? The guy I was comfortable enough to chat with at that café, or the mysterious military guy who had bullets in his body, full of secrets I’m better off not knowing. In the end, Kyungsoo settled for a “don’t worry about your friend, he’s going to be fine” instead. “So the military huh?” He adds.

“Yes, I’m in the military.” Jongin’s words were guarded, as if he didn’t want to reveal more. Probably can’t reveal more, Kyungsoo reckons. He wasn’t used to this side of Jongin though – the man’s façade cold and tightlipped, as compared to when they were back in that café. Kyungsoo thinks he doesn’t like soldier Jongin.

“So the previous time when you almost died...” The doctor trails off.

Jongin frowns and nods, already picking up on what the other had intended to ask. “Mission gone wrong. It’s classified, sorry... I can’t say more than that.” He leans back against the wall, eyes following how Kyungsoo turns away from him with an annoyed scowl before the other steps closer.

“Is this how it’s going be?” Kyungsoo gestures between the both of their bodies, “You speaking to me so coldly, acting like we’re strangers.” Jongin glances down at the pointed look the doctor gives to his folded arms. He relaxes his stance at once. “You never did call me either.” Kyungsoo fixes him a sad look, and Jongin’s expression softens at once. “Did you find it funny that you could just rile me up like that, make me anticipate our next date, and then just disappear? Messing with my feelings like that?”

“I’m sorry, Kyungsoo. I really am... believe me when I say that I would have called you if I could.” The captain holds onto Kyungsoo’s elbows gently and pulls the latter closer, the elder’s head fitting like a puzzle piece in the crook of Jongin’s neck. “Forgive me, Soo. Give me another chance. Let me take you out again.” He whispers in Kyungsoo’s ear.

Kyungsoo finds himself staying in Jongin’s embrace for a little while more before he finally breaks away. He knows it’s probably because of work that led to Jongin neglecting to call him; he remembers now why the other had said he had irregular work hours previously. In fact, both their occupations could be stumbling blocks in their emerging relationship. After all, which couple thrives when neither has time for the other?

But when Kyungsoo sets his mind on cutting off Jongin once and for all, before his heart would have the chance to hurt, he takes one look at the pleading expression on the other’s face and he crumbles. “Okay.” Kyungsoo relents. But one more time- one more time you leave me, I’m not going to let you off, he makes himself a silent promise.

The smile blooming on Jongin’s face was beautiful but masking deep relief; the captain vows not to screw things up between them ever again.

And Jongin does try. He tries very hard not to fuck things up between him and Kyungsoo, just when their relationship was about to take off. “You know, I didn’t mean for you to call me every few hours, Jongin... I appreciate the effort though, but seriously–” The doctor lets out an exasperated sigh into his phone. Just last night, they’d spent close to an hour conversing over the phone when Kyungsoo had a short break after his rounds. To think they were starting to act more like boyfriends than just regular friends. The doctor smiles when he hears the other chuckling. “Glad to know you find humor in this.”

“Well, it’s because your voice is so damn sexy over the phone. I can’t get enough of it.” Jongin smirks. “When’s your next day off? Can I take you out for dinner?” He cocks his head to the side when his second phone buzzes, but his expression soon turns serious – it was his private cell meant as the only tool of communication between him and the cabinet members in the government. Another target? Effortlessly unlocking the phone and tapping on the screen to load the message, Jongin continues to let out soft hums to let Kyungsoo know that he was still listening as the other rattled off his work schedule for the week.

Han Kyung University Hospital VIP Entrance

Man dressed in a black suit and formal hat

To terminate

Jongin frowns. He finds it strange that no name was forwarded to him this time around; his victim’s names would usually be made known to him, then it was up to him to do his homework of how the other person looked like and when is the most opportune time to strike. This time, they’d merely described what his target would be wearing. How would his higher-ups even know what the target would wear though? Jongin considers calling, or at least texting back, to confirm the man’s identity, but reckons there must be a reason for him to not know hence he holds back his curiosity.

After all, the memory of last outing’s failure was still fresh in his mind; Jongin vows to do a good job to make up for last time, no questions asked.

“—you listening, Jongin?” The captain startles when he hears his own name being mentioned by Kyungsoo through the phone pressed to his ear. Probably sensing that his attention had drifted midway through, Kyungsoo sighs and repeats himself. “I was saying that I end at 8 tonight. If you don’t mind a late dinner, how about you come over and I’ll cook?”

“You’ll cook for me?” Jongin smiles. “How domestic.” He comments. Kyungsoo actually laughs, and from his reply in a soft voice, it’s obvious that he’s shy as well; he’d probably shocked himself by offering. “You do know that if your food is good, you’ll have to cook me meals for the rest of my life right?” The former teases. “Once we get married, you’d have to retire and be a househusband?” Kyungsoo splutters.

“That does sound wonderful right, Soo?” Jongin says excitedly, just imagining way into their possible future. “Listen—” One eye on his other phone lying on the table in front of him, before his glance drifts up to the clock on his wall, the latter speaks in a gentle tone, “I’ve got to go now... Perhaps, I’ll pick you up from work later and we can make our way to your apartment?” Jongin smiles when he hears Kyungsoo agreeing, the manner in which the doctor replies making it obvious that he wasn’t the only one anticipating tonight. The two murmur their goodbyes before hanging up.

Greeted by the silence of his apartment after ending the call with Kyungsoo, Jongin stands and strides to his study room with purpose. It was already close to 11 in the morning and he still had to dress, get ready his sniper rifle and make his way down to the hospital. Speaking of hospitals… Jongin recognizes the place his target would be at to be where Kyungsoo works. He notes to be extra careful not to run into the other while completing his mission.

The long-range rifle he always uses for such missions was not one he was familiar with, nor one he would prefer to use, since the people who hired him prepared it for him specifically for these assassinations only. Even the ammunitions were taken from an external source, because Jongin couldn’t use the military’s armoury for obvious reasons. Pulling a black cap low over his forehead, he snaps his long rifle case shut and stares at himself through the mirror.

You better succeed this time, Kim Jongin. No more mistakes. After settling this job, you can look forward to meeting Kyungsoo for dinner. Jongin nods at himself in the mirror before setting off. Seeing Kyungsoo later and perhaps finally asking the doctor to be his boyfriend officially were his only motivation to get this job done fast.

Jongin finds it is to be no easy job though after setting up shop at the rooftop of the building across from the hospital’s entrance and spotting the two rows of medical staff lined up along the soft carpet rolled out, waiting to welcome the VIPs. He’d wished that he wouldn’t run into Kyungsoo, but there the doctor was – standing right at the start of the line with a grumpy expression on his face, Sehun stands to his right, engaging the former in a conversation.

Jongin was tasked to assassinate the VIP dressed in a black suit and formal hat at the entrance of the hospital. He looks down at his watch and frowns; the timing was right too – it was soon one in the afternoon. So does that mean I have to take out the VIP in front of the crowd of doctors and nurses? Most, if not all, of his previous engagements were done in a low-key manner. So what’s with the occasion this time around? It’s not something Jongin can’t deal with though.

He tugs his cap down and lies on the ground, inching to get in position by his prepped rifle. Jongin adjusts the stand a little and presses his face and one eye to the sniper scope; training the target lines at the doctor he was so infatuated with. Kyungsoo looks even cuter from here, he chuckles to himself before tilting the rifle to scan the environment. After the huge debacle the previous round, Jongin would take every chance to be careful and check that he wasn’t in a set-up of some kind.

A sedan pulled into the driveway just then, and Jongin tenses up. He sees the row of medical staff straighten themselves up, and he points his rifle at the opening doors of the vehicle. A lady dressed in vibrant red steps out accompanied by another male, and Jongin releases his finger pressing lightly against the trigger. Wrong target. The hitman snorts when the doctors bow as one; Kyungsoo forcefully dragged down by Sehun, resulting in him bending at an awkward angle.

Before he could resume gawking at the doctor’s handsome face, another car turns the corner. This is it. There was a gut feeling in Jongin’s stomach that this was the car of the person he was supposed to terminate. It only registered to him that it was a military-owned vehicle when Chanyeol steps out of the passenger seat dressed in a neat suit. Jongin gets over the momentary surprise a second later and aims his rifle at the door his best friend was walking over to open. Since when has he been doubling up as a bodyguard as well? He frowns. It can’t be right? It can’t be that his target was the guest Chanyeol is escorting?

Not one second later, a man dressed in a black suit and hat emerges from the car. Jongin curses under his breath and prepares to pull the trigger; he was prepared to finish up his assignment no matter what – even if his success meant Chanyeol’s failure to protect his charge. It was an old man for sure, but the hat was propped on his head at an angle obstructing Jongin’s sight of his target’s face. He changes his strategy to strike at the man’s body instead. The hitman usually prefers to finish it off with a single bullet to the head.

Jongin doesn’t see how Kyungsoo’s body stiffens in recognition of the man with Chanyeol.

There was a moment before he pulls the trigger when he saw his best friend’s head tilt up in his direction, but Jongin ducks low over the edge of the roof after he’d released the shot. It was when the target had turned around that he’d aimed for the person’s chest, and judging by the screams coming from the ground now, Jongin had succeeded.

He sneaks a peek at the scene a while later. There were people panicking and running around, there was also a group of guys huddled over the fallen man – Jongin spots Chanyeol crouching near the head of the VIP, yelling out commands and screaming for people to attend to his charge. It was only when someone moves out of the way that Jongin feels his blood freeze over. Of course he would recognize the face of his direct supervisor any day; the General’s eyes already clamped shut, expression sculpted in pain. His head swivels to Kyungsoo at once, and that was when millions of thoughts of “what have I done” and “has there been some kind of a mistake” were triggered in his mind.

Jongin knows he will forever be haunted by the horrified look on Kyungsoo’s face as the doctor stands rooted in his spot, feet too afraid to take a step closer towards his dying father, mouth still open in a silent scream.

And Jongin knows he’d stepped onto a path of no return. He runs. He runs far away; he decides to leave Kyungsoo, because nothing he could ever do would make up for the pain he’d cause to the other. Nothing, he believes.

“You’re not in the right state of mind to be involved in this operation, Kyungsoo!” The said man ignores Sehun and puts on his scrubs before heading over to the sink to wash his hands. His heart and mind were in a hurry as he washes his hands with the antimicrobial soap. We shouldn’t even be having this operation Sehun wants to say, but he doesn’t. “Dr Do!” Kyungsoo glares at the other when he pulls on his shoulder hard, halting him as he was walking towards the doors to the operating theatre.

“My father’s dying, Sehun.” Kyungsoo yells before his voice drops to a whisper, “I need to help him please.” The younger doctor’s face softens at once at his friend’s glassy eyes. “You know I’m the only one in this hospital capable of saving him at this point.” Kyungsoo scowls when he spots Junmyeon suiting up as well. Are you really? Sehun frowns. Would this be a mountain too high even for your genius to climb? The single bullet had ripped right into the General’s chest after all, dangerously close to his heart.

“What the fuck are you doing?” Kyungsoo rushes over to Junmyeon and rips the other’s scrubs out of his hand. “I don’t want you operating on my father, you pathetic excuse of a doctor.” Kyungsoo dismisses his protests angrily and storms into the OT, Sehun follows after him right away. They had very little time to lose. In fact, everyone knows that it just might be a little too late already; the bullet had found its target well.

“His blood pressure is extremely low, doctor.” One of his assistants reports from the side. As if we don’t already know. Kyungsoo doesn’t respond, instead he uses the scalpel passed to him to make an incision on the patient’s chest, and Sehun gets to work as well. They know they have to extract the bullet as the first step, but it was always going to be a difficult process – cardiovascular surgeries have always been intricate and take up a lot of time. Except, they don’t have the liberty of it this time around.

“I see the point of entry, but not the bullet, Kyungsoo.” Sehun curses under his breath, “His vessels are messed up.” He uses the suction pump to draw the spilling blood away. Kyungsoo hums and dives deeper, moving past the arteries. It’s even worse than I thought. The latter squints his eyes and studies the tissues surrounding the heart. Judging by the damage... My god, the bullet’s lodged in his heart.

“It’s not near the heart, the bullet’s actually lodged in it somewhere.” Kyungsoo exhales sharply. Sehun curses under his breath because he knows the other was right. The sudden beeping of the electronic monitor draws alarm from all in the room.

“Hold this.” Sehun instructs his assistant to hold onto one of the forceps and shouts out to the circulating nurse to read out the patient’s vitals, while he readies the defibrillator to return his heartbeat back to its normal pulse rate.

“Judging by the direction of the scarring against the walls, it could be in the aortic valve.” Kyungsoo guesses. “Hold this clamp.” His assistant does as he is told as he grabs the micro-forceps. “Wait.” Kyungsoo stops Sehun just when the other was about to use the defibrillator on his father’s heart.

“What are you doing? We don’t have time!” The younger rarely questions his senior’s actions, but this time, he doesn’t hold back from raising his voice. “He can go into arrest any mo—”

“I need to get this bullet out first, you know that!” Kyungsoo snaps, interrupting Sehun. The former mutters under his breath as he peels aside yet another damaged vessel. Sehun grits his teeth and stares at the heart monitor near the head of the table. Damn it, they’re screwed.

“Kyungsoo...” He hisses in warning, though his spare hand goes to help the other out. Both freeze and stare up at each other in alarm when the electronic monitor’s issues it’s critical warning. “Cardiac arrest. Shit.” Kyungsoo rushes to massage his father’s heart. Beat. Keep beating please. PLEASE!

“He’s not getting any circulation at all.” Sehun sees the damaged vessels around the affected area and he knows there’s no way back from this. Even resuscitation would be highly unlikely.

It had always been an impossible surgery from the start.

“What are you doing, Oh Sehun!” Kyungsoo yells in frustration as he sees the other stilling. He takes it upon himself to grab the forceps his assistant lays back down on the table to continue the operation, even when everyone else had stopped what they were doing. The sound of the flatline eerie in the silence of the operating theatre. “Get me some vasopressin now.” Kyungsoo orders. “I found the bullet!” He exclaims a while later and hurries to get it out.

“Stop, Kyungsoo.” Sehun says calmly. It’s too late. He’s gone. Can’t the man see that he’s already dead?

The other ignores his friend’s words as he finally deposits the stained bullet into the metal bowl. Come on! Beat! “Where’s the vasopressin I asked for?” Kyungsoo yells at the nurses as he continues to massage the organ, startling a few. “I can still save him.” The desperation was obvious in his shaky voice. “Please.” He turns to Sehun with tears that finally well up in his eyes; perhaps he finally saw the truth – he had lost him after all. “I can still save him.” Kyungsoo whispers, but even the words sound unbelievable to him this time. He turns to stare at his father’s sleeping face.

You can’t die... I haven’t seen you in so many years, you can’t leave me when there’s still so much I want to say to you, father.

Kyungsoo clenches his fist and hits at his father’s arm weakly. How dare you just go like that. “I can’t save him.” He admits and breaks down into tears. It was a rare sight to see – the usually hardheaded, confident man, so broken and vulnerable. “I let him die.” The doctor blames himself. The flatline beeping continues as if mocking him – the anthem to his sorrow.

“Kyungsoo stop.” Sehun says sadly. “I’m sorry for your lost, but it’s not your fault at all.” He lowers his gaze, heart breaking at the sight of his mentor. The rest of the operating staff exits the room with a subtle signal from Sehun, though the man himself stays behind to accompany Kyungsoo. The latter was openly crying by his father’s head. Wordlessly, the younger doctor starts to patch up the dead man’s body.

When he was done, Sehun takes a step back and glances at the time frozen on the counter behind the operating table. “Mr Do Hyun Sung. Time of—” He falls silent when Kyungsoo croaks out an “I’ll do it” miserably.

“It’s the last thing I can do for him as his son.” And Sehun’s heart just breaks for the other.

Kyungsoo pushes himself up to stand, wipes at his cheeks roughly and clears his throat parched from all the crying. “Do Hyun Sung—” he glances down at his father’s face, “—time of death, one twenty-nine in the afternoon.” The second he was done with the words, the man slumps back down onto the ground and stares lifelessly at the body. Sehun fixes Kyungsoo a worried look; he knows it would most probably take the other a very long time to recover from this – the trauma he had gained from this experience.

To think that Kyungsoo has never once lost a patient, but he finally did today.

And that first death turns out to be his father’s.

~~3 months later~~

Jongin sighs and stays on his bed awhile longer, still tired after a long night outside and only catching sleep at the approach of dawn. His eyes falls on his phone’s lock screen, and instead of smiling at the sight of it like how he’d did in the past, now all he can do is grimace as a wave of guilt washes over him when looking at Kyungsoo’s face. “You’re a coward, Kim Jongin.” He berates himself.

Three months. He’d set a new record for not establishing any form of contact with Kyungsoo for three long months. The last time Jongin had seen the other guy was at General Do’s funeral. He had only stayed for a short while. He could barely watch Kyungsoo then – the man so desolate – being supported on both sides by Sehun and his other friend throughout the ceremony. It was eating him up from the inside, the guilt – he’d taken the life of the other’s sole remaining family member. It hurts even more when he knows how much Kyungsoo had wanted to reunite with his father.

Besides wallowing in his depressing thoughts, Jongin had also spent the past three months investigating. He knew General Do to be a righteous man, dignified in all that he does, and definitely not corrupted in any sense. So why would the two cabinet members want to kill him? Jongin had always assumed that his targets were corrupt officials or personnel that threatened the national security of their country. Had he been wrong all this while? If his past missions were all unwarranted killings, he feels cheated.

Jongin hates to think that the government has been using him — that they’ve made him a murderer instead. That’s why he vowed to get to the bottom of this. He’d even taken to following the two cabinet members around, resorting to taking time off from work to shadow them in a bid to surface anything suspicious. Chanyeol has even begun to ask him questions about his absence.

And Jongin had identified something suspicious. After last night’s visit to this particular club in Gangnam – he’d found that the two officials often visit that particular establishment under thick disguise, and they would always enter from the back door – the hitman had picked up on something familiar. Jongin shakes the sleepiness out of his system and stands to gather from his hidden drawer all the weaponry the cabinet members had given him and lays it out on his bed in a rush. I swear I’ve seen that nightclub logo before. Jongin had gone through all of them once, but nothing had stood out to him then, even the mobile phone he used to contact them yielded no clues.

That’s it! He picks up the cartridge of bullets and inspects them one by one. They all have the club’s logo imprinted at a small corner of the shell. “They must have gotten these firearms from the club then.” Jongin exhales deeply. But the real question was what kind of nightclub deals firearms though? “Unless they’re linked to the black market... the Mafia?” That realization came to him all of a sudden. Could the two of them be linked to the Underground?

If that is true, it would mean that Jongin had indirectly been working for the Mafia all along. He curses himself for not suspecting anything when the two officials had first approached him prior to making him their hitman. Jongin was fraught with anger – to think he’d worked so hard to eliminate targets he assumed to be corrupted men, only to find out that he’d been working for corrupted people since the beginning.

He quietly dresses himself and loads a couple of guns before concealing them with his clothes. There was only one thought on his mind – he was aiming for a confrontation. Jongin considers calling Chanyeol and bringing him along for support, but he thinks twice about implicating his best friend in something possibly quite dangerous and he aborts that idea at once. Nightfall – that’s when the two higher-ups usually sneak into the club. Jongin loads his gun magazine expertly and gives himself a determined stare through the mirror. He will get answers and make things right again.

“No. No. No. What is he doing here?!” Jongin mouth falls open in horror as he stays hidden in a dark alley near the back entrance of the nightclub, Marco Vintage. It was still an hour away from the time his targets usually arrive, but it was the recognition of someone else that takes him by surprise. Someone he hasn’t seen in two long months. He takes a hesitant step out of the shadows, watching as Kyungsoo ducks behind a pillar before furtively making his way to the back entrance of the club. The doctor looked scared but determined, as if he was somewhere he shouldn’t be, but somewhere he needed to be at the same time.

And it’s true. He shouldn’t be here! Jongin grabs his hair anxiously, worried for the safety of the other (especially if this was Mafia territory), before he decides to throw all his plans out of the window to follow after the other. His priority has now obviously shifted – Kyungsoo’s safety taking precedence over everything else.

There was no one stationed at the back entrance surprisingly. Jongin studies the half-open door and only enters when he confirms there was no one hidden behind it, waiting in ambush. His hands were holding on tightly to his own Walther P99, ready to fire at a moment’s notice. Jongin walks down the semi-lit hallway vigilantly. Where is Kyungsoo? Muffled sounds of the bass booming from the club out front vibrated off the walls he creeps along, but the noise doesn’t prevent him from picking up the soft shuffling of feet somewhere to his right. Jongin
whips around at once and points his gun in the direction of another narrower hallway.

“Kyungsoo.” He whispers softly under his breath when he spots a small figure crouching down near an open door– the doctor had hesitated in front of the lit room. The other was obviously not very stealthy, even though he attempted to be, and panic courses through Jongin’s veins when he spots Kyungsoo’s shadow visible through the doorway. If the room had occupants, they would be able to spot the man at once. Wait, Kyungsoo! Jongin almost shouts, but it’s too late for the other had burst into the room after taking a quick peek in.

“Kim Junmyeon!” He hears Kyungsoo shouting in an accusatory tone. Jongin rushes forward and stops by where Kyungsoo had been crouching previously, ready to burst in to save the other at any moment. He darts over to the other side of the door so that he had sight of the situation. It would appear that the room was bare apart from Kyungsoo and another man who were standing facing each other.

“I knew there was something not quite right about you...” Kyungsoo spits at Junmyeon. “It’s your father right? Your father, Kim Taek Woon, had my father killed!” He accuses. Jongin stills in recognition of the name being one of the cabinet members who gives him his kill list. “You see this emblem on this bullet shell? This was the bullet that killed my father. I did some digging, and guess where it led me to? Here!” Kyungsoo snaps and lunges at the other.

Junmyeon easily sidesteps Kyungsoo and whips out a gun, training it on the latter. At the appearance of the weapon, Jongin makes his presence known as he runs in and stands in front of Kyungsoo, blocking the other with his body. “I’d have a bullet between your brows even before you can think of pulling the trigger.” He doesn’t even budge when the gun wavers in Junmyeon’s hand (it was obvious that the other was an amateur in handling a weapon; he only had one for times when he had to protect himself it seems). Jongin also doesn’t budge when he feels Kyungsoo’s hands clutching weakly at the back of his jacket.

“J-Jongin?” The doctor whispers, half in surprise and half in disbelief. He’d missed Jongin; he’d missed the other’s nearly hourly calls; he’d missed the other’s face. He hadn’t been in contact with the other, coincidentally or not, since the day he lost his father. He doesn’t realize how much he’d truly missed him until this moment. This was his first time seeing the soldier wielding a gun and Kyungsoo was impressed. He stares up at Jongin’s hostile face before his eyes dart over to watch Junmyeon.

“Stay behind me, Soo.” Jongin’s left hand reaches out to pull Kyungsoo back behind him when the latter had taken a step out to the left, right hand still holding his gun steady. And Kyungsoo feels safe behind Jongin’s broad back, even though there was a gun on them.

“Who are you?” Junmyeon shoots out at Jongin before he mutters a softer “Never mind” and takes a step sideways so that he could see Kyungsoo. “You’re right, Kyungsoo.” The man laughs and cocks his head. “My father did get Master Park’s men to kill the General. He’s not even the first to die. There were plenty of others that were killed off too because they stood in our way.” Jongin bites down on his bottom lip in anger. For a moment, his hand falters, upset that he’d been used, but Kyungsoo’s hands holding his sides grounds him.

“Stood in your way of what?” Jongin grits out through his teeth.

“Greatness? My father becoming the next president of the state.” Junmyeon states nonchalantly. “He already has most of the cabinet behind him. With Master Park funding him, there are only a few flies left to get rid of before he gets into the blue house.” Junmyeon smiles. “Your father had began to suspect something – he was snooping around on some of my father’s accounts and investigating our correspondences with the Park Clan – we had no choice but to terminate him.” Kyungsoo stiffens when the other doctor laughs. “It’s fortunate we placed someone with General Do a couple of years back. He let us know early and we got rid of him.”

A spy by the General’s side? This was unexpected. Jongin wrecks his mind just thinking of who it could be. But he did not need to think too long for the answer strode in with three other men two being the corrupt cabinet members – not a minute later. Jongin’s mouth falls open as he takes a step back in shock. He feels Kyungsoo tightening his grip on him in worry to his reaction, but nothing would have pre-empted him for this.

“Hello, Captain.” Chanyeol smirks and gives Jongin a mock salute. And the blood just drains from the latter’s face.

W-What?! Jongin points his gun at his best friend instead. “Chanyeol.” He breathes out shakily. “What are you doing? Since when have you been on the bad guys’ side?”

“I’ve always been on the bad guys’ side, dear Jongin.” The other replies with a shrug of his shoulders. “Ah! I should probably introduce you...” Chanyeol pats the back of the old man standing beside him, “My father. He’s the leader of the Park Clan.” He rolls his eyes dramatically, “You are aware of the Park Clan right?” The most notorious gang in Korea, of course. Jongin studies Chanyeol’s father. His friend had always kept things hushed up when the topic of his father came up, and Jongin has never pried, only knowing that their relationship was not the usual. Now he knew why.

“It was I who advised my father to get them to make you our hitman.” Chanyeol tilts his head towards the two government officials. “The people you’ve killed were all chosen by me.” He smirks. “You killed General Do because I told you to.” Jongin hears Kyungsoo release a sharp gasp from behind him. “I didn’t know it was him I had to kill, you bastard. You tricked me!” He yells.

“Kim Jongin killed your father, Do Kyungsoo. Why are you still hiding behind him?” Chanyeol peeks over Jongin’s shoulder and smiles at the frozen doctor. “He’s a bad guy too.” Kyungsoo releases his grip on Jongin’s sides and takes a step away from him in shock. Kyungsoo. The soldier tries to reach out for the other.

“No! Stay away.” The doctor screams when Jongin shadows his step in order to keep him out of sight.

“I didn’t know my target was the General, Kyungsoo. Believe me, please. I thought I was only asked to kill those who threatened our country’s security. I’m not with them.” Jongin begs. “Please.” He wishes for Kyungsoo to see the truth – that he was tricked, and that he wasn’t a bad person. “Stay behind me.” I need to protect you.

The betrayed look on Kyungsoo’s face devastated Jongin. It was in that moment, when the tears in the doctor’s eyes distracted him, that Junmyeon, who had been subtly making his way across the room, made the decision to attack. Kyungsoo saw the other raising his gun to point at Jongin. The thought of warning the latter didn’t even surface in his mind – Kyungsoo jumps at Jongin at once, trying to shield him from the gunfire. He could have let the other get hit as a revenge for his father; he could have pretended not to see Junmyeon firing, but the doctor thinks back to the times when Jongin made his heart beat just a little faster, and he selflessly runs forward; if only to lessen the hurt he’d feel if the other were to really get shot – because he still cares about Jongin.

He hadn’t expect to be whirled around by the soldier that easily. Kyungsoo hears the other grunt, but he doesn’t see where Jongin got hit. He only knows the man had fired his weapon too, and judging by the thump he hears behind him, Junmyeon must have been struck down. But all that ran through Kyungsoo’s mind was the fact that Jongin had taken a bullet for him.

Jongin sees Chanyeol’s father pushing the two cabinet members out of the room. He also sees Chanyeol reaching to his side for his gun. Jongin points his gun at the other, body standing at an angle as he holds Kyungsoo against his chest, protecting the latter in his embrace. He knows he has to shoot his best friend, but Jongin hesitates. This was the man he’d spent a good number of years with; the man who he shared plenty of good memories with; the man who he trusts; the man who he thinks of as his brother.

But now, he sees Chanyeol for who he really is. Added to the fact that he had to put Kyungsoo’s safety as a priority, Jongin blinks away his tears and mouths an “I’m sorry” before he fires. The first bullet strikes Chanyeol right in the chest, but the other responds with a shot as well. Jongin covers Kyungsoo’s worried eyes with a hand; he feels extreme pain in his lower back, but he fires off a couple more rounds until Chanyeol’s gun falls from his hand. His tears fall uncontrollably as he sees his best friend falling onto his knees, the light leaving his eyes gradually.

Jongin can feel Kyungsoo trembling in his arms, he can hear the smaller speaking to him, and he can feel the other touching his face. But darkness was also chasing him. And as his gun falls to the ground, Jongin succumbs to the pain. The last thing he sees before his vision fails him was his best friend’s face, eyes still blown open in a dead stare. Jongin wonders if Chanyeol has ever held him as a brother like he did, or had he always been a pawn on the other’s chessboard.

“You’re not thinking of leaving again, are you?” A soft voice speaks to his left, and Jongin stills. He hadn’t paid much attention to his surroundings when he woke, all he saw was the white ceiling and the familiar sheets and he just knows that he’s in the hospital again; he also knows he has to leave.

Jongin tries to swing his legs over the edge of the bed so that he could hightail it out of there before he sees Kyungsoo, but he finds that they were being uncooperative. There was a strange numbness to his lower body, one that Jongin pins down to being still groggy from whatever surgery he must have had. It was when he attempts to slide off the bed that Kyungsoo’s voice made its way to his ear – the doctor had been occupying a seat on the other side of his bed after all.

“Are you running away again, Kim Jongin?” Kyungsoo repeats himself, fixing Jongin a sad smile when the latter finally gets brave enough to look him in the eye.

“I-I...” The soldier sighs after a moment of hesitation, “I’m really sorry, Kyungsoo. You can hate me all you want. I’m sorry for everything.” Jongin bows his head and blinks away the few tears that were parked in the corner of his eyes. He hears the other approaching him from the heavy footsteps he makes, and Jongin braces himself.

“I hate you, Kim Jongin.” Kyungsoo chokes out, clenched fist pushing roughly at Jongin’s chest. The man draws his hand back and thumps the other’s chest again, this time slightly weaker in force. “I hate you for taking away my father.” He shoves at Jongin again. “Also, I hate you for leaving when I needed you most.” Kyungsoo exhales deeply.

“Most of all, I hate myself for forgiving you so soon.” The man whispers, but Jongin hears him all the same. The latter peers up at Kyungsoo with wide eyes. “I know you’re not one of them, Jongin – you’re not a bad person; I gathered that from what we had before. You just placed your trust in the wrong person.” Jongin grabs Kyungsoo’s hands and brings them closer to him. He feels the other’s slight flinch, but he’s grateful that Kyungsoo doesn’t pull away ultimately.

“You know how I know for sure that you’re not one of them?” Jongin shakes his head lightly and remains silent. He watches as Kyungsoo rummages in his pant’s pocket before pulling his hand out, on his palm lies four bullet shells. “These are what first led you to me.” The doctor picks one up by his thumb and index finger, “I kept the bullets I pulled out of your body that first time I operated on you.” Jongin mouth falls open as he too picks one bullet up and studies it. “The Park Clan’s symbol are on these too.” Kyungsoo tells him. “The person who tried to kill you was Chanyeol himself, Jongin. I heard his father’s confession from the police officers... I’m sorry.”

It was Chanyeol who ambushed me? Jongin pinches his eyes shut – he wasn’t angry at the betrayal, he’s just overwhelmed by sadness at the reminder that his best friend was no longer here. Jongin sighs and relaxes into the other’s hold when Kyungsoo leans his upper body over the edge of the bed to bring him into a hug.

He’s surprised that the doctor had decided to put it past him; Jongin had expected that the other won’t even be able to stand the sight of him. But now, with Kyungsoo voluntarily holding him, Jongin sure wasn’t complaining. “You know... I promised myself that I wasn’t going to forgive you if you left me another time?” The latter remains silent in order to let Kyungsoo continue speaking. “When I needed all the support I could get after my dad left, I sought for you, but you weren’t there.” The doctor sighs.

“How could I run to embrace you, to comfort you, when I’m the very source of your pain altogether?” Jongin whispers weakly. I’m not so shameless.

“What you did to my father hurt me, but I’ve looked past it; I know my father wouldn’t have wanted me to bear the burden of hating someone for the rest of my life, especially if it was a mistake. I tried to hate you, but I simply couldn’t put the whole blame on you. You leaving; you not responding to my calls when I needed a listening ear; you not being there when all I needed was for someone to hold me and tell me that everything’s going to be alright... that pained me more because you’d promised, Jongin – you promised to be there.”

Kyungsoo wipes a stray tear off his cheek with the back of his hand. “So I made a promise too.” Jongin stills in anticipation of what the other was going to say. “I promised to not care when I next see you; I promised to forget that there was ever a Kim Jongin in my life.” Kyungsoo lets out a soulless chuckle just then. “But look at where we are right now?” He sighs and cards his fingers through Jongin’s hair. “I couldn’t look away from you when you found me at the club. Even after I knew what you had done, I couldn’t stay away except for that first few seconds I’d succeeded. I guess we both can’t keep our promises huh?” Kyungsoo jokes.

Jongin shakes his head desperately and clings onto Kyungsoo’s body tightly. Then don’t look away then. Then don’t let go. He wanted to say.

“I couldn’t tell myself not to care when you got shot, Jongin... because I care.” The doctor admits, “I care about you because I like you too much not to.” Jongin smiles and looks up at Kyungsoo who was staring down at him with an unreadable expression on his face. The former couldn’t be happier. He knows what this is; he knows that this is Kyungsoo opening up his walls again.

“Thank you for giving me another chance, Soo.” Jongin says sincerely. He tries to get up so that he could properly enfold Kyungsoo into his arms, but the captain stumbles and the latter had to rush to catch him before he falls to the ground. They both end up seated on the floor anyways.

Jongin stares at his legs in shock before he looks up at Kyungsoo’s sad eyes. He doesn’t want to think that he sees pity in them.

“I also hate you for taking that bullet for me.” Kyungsoo whispers.

I did get my retribution after all, Jongin figures. It’s always the case in life – you win some, you lose some. He had gained another chance with Kyungsoo, but he’d also lost plenty to offset as big a positive as that is. But Jongin thinks it’s okay because a chance at a future with Kyungsoo should be well worth it.

~~4 years later~~

“Grandpa Yoo, I do free medical check ups for the elderly around the neighborhood, I don’t help people fix broken lamps.” Kyungsoo huffs in frustration, though he does as he is told and climbs up the short ladder, spare bulb in hand.

“Shush! A young man like you should offer to help your elders. Besides, I can’t call on anyone else since everyone is as old as me or even older in this small village. All the young adults have left for the cities... it’s weird that you and your husband decided to move here instead.” The elder smiles and hands Kyungsoo a glass of ice water when the latter clambers down. “Why did you move here by the way?”

“I ask myself that everyday.” Kyungsoo takes a long sip at the water while wiping at the light sheen of sweat on his forehead – he’d been running around the whole afternoon after all. “You know, I could have earned millions if I stayed in Seoul and continued being a doctor in a fancy hospital?” He says in a serious manner, though the small lift at the corner of his lips a half second later showed that he was just joking. After all, when they had first made the decision to pack up and leave for the countryside, they had wanted to start on a clean slate. They just happened to fall in love with the peaceful and tranquil environment, and that’s why after four years of moving here, they have yet to grow sick of the surrounding mountains and leave.

“Don’t forget and leave the lights on overnight again, Grandpa!” Kyungsoo reminds him as he picks up his messenger bag, done with his work. The old man only nods impatiently and shoos the doctor away.

“Don’t keep your husband waiting, boy. Especially on a special day like this. How many years has it been?” Grandpa Yoo smiles and asks.

“Two.” Kyungsoo laughs and bows in parting before he darts off as fast his short legs could carry him. Someone special was waiting for him – that special one who would always wait for him at sunset so that they could go home together.

Because home isn’t really home when one half of their heart isn’t there.

And true enough, he spots a familiar figure under the shade of the huge cedar tree in the distance. Kyungsoo slows down once he nears the other for it is obvious from how his body slumps forward that the man must have dozed off while waiting for him. He walks in front of the other and crouches down so that he’d be at eye level when he wakes. Kyungsoo smiles at how his husband was tightly clutching onto four stalks of daisies, as if he was afraid that they’d be taken away from him; the flowers had grown to become a symbol of their relationship in the past four years.

The doctor presses a kiss on the other’s forehead before caressing his face with both hands. “Jongin, love.” Kyungsoo smiles down at the other when eyelids flutter open to reveal dark brown eyes. Dark eyes that warm when he takes note of whom it is that has woken him. “Let’s go home?” Jongin’s smile was equally bright as he nods and pulls Kyungsoo down to sit on his lap, handing over to the latter the bunch of daisies.

“Happy anniversary, Soo.” Jongin kisses him fully on the lips before wheeling them down the smooth asphalt and in the direction of their modest but lovely cottage. Kyungsoo wraps his arms around his husband’s neck and tucks his head at the crook of Jongin’s neck. As the last rays of sunset crossed over the horizon, lighting up the sky in warm hues, the couple can’t help but think back that it was a good choice for them to leave everything behind in the city and opt for a future of simplicity in the countryside.

“I cooked us dinner, believe it or not.” Jongin chuckles, Kyungsoo joining in when he recalls that previous time he’d almost broke a tooth chewing on the piece of meat the other had served him. “It looked pretty decent.” Jongin mentions proudly a second later.

“Whatever you say, love.” Kyungsoo pinches his husband’s nose playfully and dodges the weak hand that swats at him. Truth be told, he knows he’d eat anything Jongin cooks for him, even if that something ends up tasteless.

Jongin maneuvers his wheelchair up the small ramp they’d built at the front of their house expertly and brought them straight towards the living room. “I thought we were going to taste your Michelin-level cooking?” Kyungsoo points in the direction of the kitchen confusedly. Jongin was hiding something behind his smile, and he finds out what it is once he spots a huge box, complete with bow and ribbons, sitting in front of the couch.

“What’s this?” Kyungsoo asks, a little excitement slipping through his voice, as he climbs off his husband and kneels beside the box.

“Another gift for you, Soo. I thought it was time since we’ve been married for two years now.” Jongin mentions shyly, but Kyungsoo catches the other when he attempts to wheel himself out of the room. There was an odd sound coming from within the box and Kyungsoo heart leaps in his chest when the box moves to hit against his foot.

“D-Did you get us a–” The latter gasps sharply when Jongin unravels the ribbon and chucks the cover to the side, allowing a golden brown puppy to pop up from the top of the box and attempt to scale over the walls once it sets sight on Kyungsoo. “Adorable! Thank you.” The doctor squeals and scoops up the puppy at once, pressing it to his cheeks and smiling up at Jongin who was watching him with a happy smile.

“Why a puppy out of the sudden?” Kyungsoo asks as he rubs the bared belly of the puppy.

Jongin gulps and looks down at his lap. His fingers can’t help but clench and unclench over his khaki pants. “I thought about starting a family with you. I know you like kids, but it might be too early to adopt... getting a pet seemed the best alternative.” He adds shyly. Jongin buries his face in his hands the next second, and it was at the sound of sniffles that Kyungsoo places the puppy down and gets up in panic.

“Love, why are you crying?” He kneels beside Jongin and tries to pull the latter’s hands away.

“Should I not have gotten us a puppy, Soo? Am I getting in over my head?” Jongin whispers. “I still can't believe you agreed to marry me. After all the wrong I’ve done to you.” Of course he was referring to his hand in Kyungsoo’s father’s death. But that was four years ago. “I don’t deserve to be with you.” The older male’s heart breaks when he sees the tears around his husband’s eyes.

This isn’t the first time he had to calm Jongin down after one of his ‘episodes’ where the other would beat himself up upon remembering the past – the man’s nightmares had been frequent for the first few months they’d stayed together. Kyungsoo still remembers waking up to an anxious Jongin holding onto him tightly because in the other man’s dream, he’d left him. But they’d gone almost a year without any issues. Kyungsoo blames himself for not seeing Jongin’s current breakdown coming. Maybe all these time, when he’d comforted the other, Jongin had not laid his concerns to rest like he had said he would, but rather he had let the worries settle in his chest instead.

He knows Jongin isn’t the man he once was – gone was the confident soldier, and in his place, stood a man with a scarred past. Jongin’s self-esteem has also sunk with the birth of his disability. But Kyungsoo wants nothing more than to heal the other.

“I don’t deserve you, Soo.” The younger repeats. “You deserve someone better.” Kyungsoo shakes his head frantically and wraps his arms around Jongin’s head, bringing him to his chest as he rests his head on the latter’s. “I can’t walk. I can’t run.” He beats his legs in frustration as Kyungsoo yelps and tries to stop him. “I swore I’d do my best to care for you, but you’re doing all the work here. I can’t even protect you if I want.” Jongin whimpers.

“But you’re the only one I want, Jongin... for the past four years, there’s no one else I wanted by my side, don’t you see?” Kyungsoo threads his fingers through the other’s hair in calming fashion. “Stop looking down on yourself. There’s no one else I rather be with.” The doctor picks up Jongin’s hand and presses a light kiss on the other’s wedding band on his ring finger. He sees that Jongin’s watching him and there was a slight apprehension on his face. “If you want me to remind you of how much I love you, I’d do it every single day.” Kyungsoo promises. At that, the younger finally smiles.

Their puppy finds it in good time to bark and nip at their ankles just then, and Kyungsoo bends down to pick it up. “Have you given our baby a name yet?” He asks while playing with its paws. Kyungsoo sees Jongin looking stunned by his use of words so he smiles, “I want to build our family too, love.” The twinkle in his eyes can’t contain how delighted he is at the newest addition to their family. “Come on, let’s name our firstborn.” Kyungsoo jokes.

He thinks the smile that blooms on Jongin’s face never looked so radiant. The latter must surely believe that he is deserving of a place in Kyungsoo’s heart finally.

(But just to be sure, the latter cements those three words “I love you” in Jongin’s heart, skin and mind that night; bodies gliding against each other and low moans representative of their sensual lovemaking, it painted a pretty picture – a happy ending.)

This is perfect this is all i never knew i needed , dots is the only drama i finished and i was really happy to find this au but it was even better than what i was expecting.
Kyungsoo was an awesome character and imagining him like this, when he's always either the overly cute or the overly cold, creepy guy made me really happy!! He's often portrayed as the unpopular guy with self esteem issues and seeing him so confident was a really nice change !!

"“I can’t save him.” He admits and breaks down into tears." , "To think that Kyungsoo has never once lost a patient, but he finally did today.

And that first death turns out to be his father’s"

The angst made my heart and those parts were the most heartbreaking !!

And that plot twist tho!! I seriously thought chanyeol was only the best friend, and i was like ?? What??!!! Omfg

Also the ending was adorable, THEIR PUPPY IS THEIR FIRST BORN THIS IS THE CUTEST THING EVER !! I wanted to hug jongin when he said that he wasnt good enough for kyungsoo, and the way kyungsoo comforted him was sooooo cute, hugging jongin's head to his chest 😭😭

Thank you so much for writing this masterpiece!!

I did not see that coming gosh. The story has been a hell of a rollercoaster ride, the first part was all bubbly and witty and I was pretty much expecting a similar setting for part two as well but wow, all the angst and drama going on- you really did a damn good job author!!

I really love the witty conversations and behaviour in the first part!! And Kyungsoo's characterisation as a doctor is pretty new as well, all snarky and confident which is very refreshing compared to the typical stoic serious doctor kyungsoo characterisation! Refreshing characterisations together with the combination of witty/snarky conversations made me laugh hella lots while reading through the first half! Thank you so much for that :)

Second half was so angsty my gosh :( And it really broke my heart when Jongin found out his best friend actually betrayed him all along and for someone who grew up alone and finally found someone to rely on, it must have broke Jongin's heart. Same goes for Kyungsoo also, to reunite with his father only at his death I was just😭😭😭😭

It was really nice though to see how Kyungsoo still cared so so much for Jongin and it's really sweet to have him able to calm Jongin down from his insecurities just by speaking to him. I think the fact that Jongin still holds so much trust in Kyungsoo's words really speaks volumes especially when he lived a great part of his life in lies (like the hitman and yeol).

It must have been a lot of work to produce sich an amazing story!! Thank you so much for the story!!♡

This is so beautiful. Here I am guessing this would be an adorable and funny fic and then there's jongin assasinating kyungsoo's dad because he unknowingly gave his trust to bad men. And there's jongin disability that made him think he doesn't deserve kyungsoo, so much emotion. But thks is still beautiful and I love the prospect of them having a family.

this is a nice story with a nice twist to it. i was not expecting chanyeol to be a bad guy like HOLYYYY SHIT so i was really sad when things turn that way. who would have thought your own bestfriend would be the one to betray you in the end right? anyway...for the first part of the story, it was really really cute! with that cellphone thingy, the date and then kyungsoo expecting jongin's calls, THAT'S REALLY REALLY REALLY ADORABLE! also, i like kyungsoo's sass in here. so as the story goes on, i guessed already that it will be ksoo's father who'll be jongin's next target. again, i felt so sad. HOW DARE YOU DO THIS TO ME? it was so angsty in ksoo's part and i sympathize with him from his father's loss. but goddamn KIM JUNMYEON!!! ARGHHHH!!! good thing jongin was there and AGAIN HOW DARE YOU DO THIS TO ME AUTHORNIM??? Jongin in a wheelchair broke my heart TT____TT tho i kind of expected that since jongin was hit on the back right? his spinal cord must have been hit that got his legs paralyzed right? :(((( it's really sad, but i'm happy that no matter what happened between kyungsoo and jongin four years ago, kyungsoo still decided to stay with jongin and married him. it was really sweet of kyungsoo. and i'm glad it was justified here in this fic that jongin didn't know anything that he was only used to kill ppl who were actually the righteous ones. i feel sad for jongin too. but hey they got their happy ending with their puppy so thank you thank you for writing this!!! i love this!!! this hitman!au has nice twist to it so this is very special for me ^^

this story shot me in my heart, you've no idea how much i love this
it got me smiling at first, kyungsoo being such an adorable doctor and jongin who tried so hard to win soo's heart
i really love the friendship between jongin and chanyeol, but that was before that utterly shocking plot twist (!!!!!!!!) how could yeol have done those ):
when jongin realised it was soo's father that he shot (i knew it!!!!) it broke my heart
and i cried when sehun tried to stop soo from operating on his father and even harder at kyungsoo's “It’s the last thing I can do for him as his son.”
my heart went all out for him
but both of them got their happy ending, it was all that matters
i love your characterisations for soo and jongin, as well as everyone else (esp sehun), they are written vvvv well
it has been a hell of a ride reading this, but ive enjoyed thoroughly as well, thank you so much for writing this, you deserve all the love ♥

OMG. DOTS!AU T.T

I'M SUCH AN EMOTIONAL WRECK RN??? *Breathes heavily*

My thoughts are haywire and I'm a bit shaky bcs this is just too good? I mean this left me breathless esp the part when Ksoo can't even save his father :(((((( But the twist really blew me up. Chanyeol whyy?? I didn't expect it. :((((

My throat hurts for keeping the tears at bay but i can't help but cry *SOBS VIOLENTLY* The angst is so good. And may I add that Kyungsoo is such a cutiepie being a doctor & Jongin is such a hot thing being a soldier???? Ahhhh. This is just too good for me.

I'm just so emo bcs of the ending. Puppies & Kyungsoo taking care of Jongin bcs of what happened to the latter :((( omg. I'm so incoherent, all I can say is I loved this one T.T thank you so so much for this!!! <3 xxx

THIS WAS A FUCKING RIDE.

I honestly came in here, ready for some romancing and some angst but this was a boatload of feels. Holy hell. Holy holy holy.

Firstly the whole writing oh God. Anything well-written is a win, of course but I love how realistic everything feels, like the settings, the mood, you translated them well.

And then the plot was amazing as well. So much turns, i just jriskdhfjsndd

And the. Ending. Oh god. I cried at the endingg when kai was beating himself up over the past? Like bby its okay come here I'll give u a hug (but it's okay he has soo he doesn't need moi)

Ahh this was really an amazing read!!10/10 would read againz you did so well SO GOOD ;;;;

The first part of the story was fun and cute but then what happened?? Everything went downhill real quick OTL
I appreciate a lot that the writer used DOTS but changed the drama plot to create something new, but Chanyeol? Suho? Why? ;;;;;;
I was so sad for Jongin... and Kyungsoo's father dying like that... I was sure Kyungsoo was going to save him /sobs
The second half of the story was so angsty, and I'm not even going to mention Jongin's disability ;;
It's a good story and I'm happy it's a DOTS!au since I've seen the drama but still, I'm a little sad :(

Oh damn. Is this the same plot as the drama? If so, i gotta watch that. If not, i still have to watch it. Thank you so much for this fic author! It was wonderful!

The whole time I read this I thought "this is giving me some major k-drama vibes", and then I scroll back up and WHAT DO YOU KNOW. Also, this fic is another reminder that I need to start watching Descendants of the Sun like PRONTO.

I was immediately charmed by your writing, especially the dialogue.

“As your mighty savior—” Kyungsoo makes a soft shushing sound when the other opens his mouth to seemingly try and take a swipe at his choice of words, “—I GAVE YOU A SECOND CHANCE AT LIFE, I’M PRACTICALLY GOD, SO SHUT THE HELL UP.”

This version of Kyungsoo is so rare, I LOVE IT.

“I saw you checking me out earlier and I must say I feel a little violated.

OMG PLS

I love love love the relationship portrayed between Baeksesoo, even if it was small. Sehun calling Kyungsoo baby is so Sehun, I can't.

I was going to comment on how much I appreciated the dynamic of Chankai's relationship too, and then yeah lol.

BUT KAISOO.

Bless Jongin's poor heart. All the pain that he has to go through breaks my own heart. He had nothing, then he ended up killing Ksoo's father, to his best friend and only family betraying him, and then taking the bullet for Kyungsoo, and becoming paralyzed. I'm just really happy that he could find solace with Kyungsoo in the end (even though he's stil traumatized), who is also such a strong character by the way.

This fic was such a great read. Thank you for your story, author!!!

ALSO I FORGOT TO MENTION JUNMYEON WTF IM ACTUALLY YELLING OVER THAT ONE. His character was very cleverly written into this story oh my goodness.

Like some people here, I dived right into the story without paying much attention to the genre description and I was like this reminds me a lot of DOTS even if I didn't watch the drama lol so yeah that was cool and I really liked their antics upon first meeting each other. It was adorable but then shit got real and it turned angsty and full of suspense too. You did a good job with the twists and revelations, that part was nice and I know I shouldn't but for some reason I'm cackling at Yeol being the root of all evil here lol
And then the last part. Is it weird to say that I like how their happily ever after isn't a perfect one? I'm not saying I wish evil on Jongin but considering all that happened, some sort of reminder had to remain with them? I don't know, I feel like it's more realistic this way than if they lived as if nothing happened before. I also like the way you dealt with Jongin's situation and despite it being a sad reality for them it kind of also allows them to keep getting closer and stronger together, yeah I like that. It ended on a tender note, albeit bittersweet.

Thank you for writing this :)

Wow. For a minute there I was soooo scare. I didn't know how they're were going to recover from the death of ksoos dad. I'm just so happy it ended happy. Honestly I only want happy ending in kaisoo no matter how bad anything is. Most of the time I read the comments to make sure it ends happy before I read a fic. It was a roller coaster of of emotions for sure. Love. Angst. Pain. Fluff. Love every bit of it. U did an awesome job writing this. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Total annihilation

First of all, thank you so much for sharing and know that you have done a wonderful job
(I have been crying for half an hour now ;;;;;).

I adored the way you made it super funny in the beginning only to gradually turn it into a serious matter of life and death. Top notch.

I find them extremely inspirational at all times.

Amazing job, thanks again, I sure would like to say more, but I'm just overwhelmed right now ❤❤❤❤

P.S.: I still love Chanyeol to bits tho.
